I have used Discovery Education in my classroom for two years now; and it has benefited my students in so many ways. It allows me to take students to places virtually to which we can never actually travel. It opens my science students up to a whole new lab experience through virtual labs that we cannot create in the classroom. It also allows my math students to play games that reinforce their skills. They can play individually against the computer or against one another. They have so much fun that they forget they are actually learning and building fluency. The material in Discovery Education and the possibilities for using the material seems endless. Finally, Discovery Education allows students to learn through a platform in which they are comfortable and enjoy, increasing their buy-in to the lessons and making the classroom culture more entertaining and relaxing.

For my 5th grade social studies class, I have used the videos a great deal. I use them either before I teach a concept or after. Either way, they help support what the students are learning. I really like how the kids can see that what they read and study about on the pages of their textbook can come to life in the videos. With regard to my 5th grade ELA class, the students enjoy using the "Daily Fix It". This shows a video and then has the students edit a sentence for correct punctuation. The kids really enjoy the video and the editing is great practice for items they will see on the state assessment and use in their writing.
